Why I became a practitioner
I am a practising Registered Midwife and a mother of three young children. My aim is to help parents to be prepared for one of the most significant and special days of their lives. My interest and passion for Natal Hypnotherapy emerged initially from working in Labour Ward where I would occasionally have seen the use of hypnotherapy for birth result in the most beautiful, calm and positive deliveries. When I became pregnant myself I was sure this was the type of experience I wanted. A friend recommended the Natal Hypnotherapy CDs. Having used them throughout this pregnancy I found myself nearing my due date feeling quite relaxed and excited at the prospects of birthing my baby. Even when complications arose in the pregnancy leading to an emergency induction of labour, I was able to remain confident, calm and composed, despite the busy clinical environment around me, needing no more than some gas and air throughout the normal delivery of my baby girl. I have subsequently gone on to have two more beautiful deliveries in water, having again only used some gas and air at the end. I've found the breathing and relaxation techniques that I have learnt to be invaluable and have resulted in really positive birthing experiences. I firmly believe that my Natal Hypnotherapy preparation enabled me to enjoy my birthing experiences. When I returned to work following the birth of my second child I began to become frustrated at the number of women coming to labour ward paralysed with fear, unable to breathe effectively or relax into the natural, amazing process of birthing their babies. Knowing that Natal Hypnotherapy could really help many of these women, I therefore took the decision to train as a Natal Hypnotherapy Practitioner. Since this I have enormously enjoyed delivering the comprehensive and well informed programme to a number of women and their partners (with amazing feedback!!). I've also managed to fit in having another wonderful birth experience myself with the birth of my third child, which has further increased my belief in Natal Hypnotherapy. Being a midwife and delivering babies on a daily basis is one of the most amazing and privileged things anyone can do, however having the ability to equip and empower women with the skills and confidence to actually look forward to and enjoy their birthing experience is proving to be just as fulfilling.
My core beliefs surrounding pregnancy and birth
I am of the opinion that there are three basic things women need to birth their babies in a positive way; the confidence in their body to do so, the ability to be able to remain fully relaxed in an intense situation and finally the ability to breathe (Yes, I know we can all obviously breathe, but Im talking deep breathing-its a skill, something that is learned and needs some practice prior to birth)!!!
I know these three things sound very simple, but I do not believe we live in a society that nurtures or promotes the learning of such skills nor gives us much reason to feel confident in our bodies amazing abilities. I learnt all these things from Natal Hypnotherapy and I am on a mission to spread the word and help others to learn them too!
My experience of working with pregnant women and my personal experience of Natal Hypnotherapy
As outlined above I have worked with many pregnant women in my capacity as a midwife in delivery suite, antenatal and postnatal wards. I have assisted many women in their birthing experiences, I have witnessed women having the most beautiful experiences and I have also witnessed the disappointment when things have not gone to plan. Combining this experience with my own personal experience of using Natal Hypnotherapy in my three pregnancies and births, I felt compelled to train as a Natal Hypnotherapy Practitioner to help others have as positive experiences as I have had as I feel Natal Hypnotherapy safely and simply equips women with the essential skills and knowledge they needs to birth their baby in a positive way.
Feedback from my classes
Mary I want to thank you so, so much for all your help in enabling me deliver my baby girl, 10lb 6oz naturally against all odds. I was asked to come in last Thursday (on my due date) for caesarian section because the baby was big and hadn't dropped. I asked to wait for another week and they were going to take me in today but thankfully I started myself yesterday and had a quick birth. Thank you so much again. Hope all your bambino's are well. Hi Mary, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for preparing me for labour. Xxxx arrived safely on 30th October at 0329 (she was 8lb 4.5oz, I couldn't believe it!!). I went myself which I think made a huge difference and got to 8cm with just gas and air, then got a diamorphine injection, so I was happy with that. I could never have done it without the Natal Hypnotherapy though...even the midwife said the difference it seemed to make. So thank you so much for making my labour a positive experience and not something which scared me. From the time I went into labour I remembered my breathing and I had my CD on throughout! So thank you so much again, x. KB
Mary, just a little note to say a massive thank you for giving us both the opportunity to avail of Natal ypnotherapy. We both thoroughly enjoyed the course and felt as first time parents we gained the essential skills to help prepare for our beautiful new arrival. I can't speak highly enough of the help and advice you have given me both before and since the arrival of *****. The course helped me to feel more confident in my ability not only to deliver but to look after our baby. I wish you all the best with future courses- I would definitely recommend the course to others as it helped me stay in control and not to panic. Good luck with the forth coming arrival of baby number 3. Thanks again. MT
Mary, we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us prepare for the birth of our beautiful wee girl!! She was born at 0735 this morning weighing 8lb 7oz...without you and your expertise of natal hypnotherapy I never would have got through it! Midwives applauded me for staying in control so well through it all!!! Thank you so much!!! GO'B
Mary this should have been one of the first emails I sent after our wee doll was born but I'm only getting around to it now. We've been so busy. We had a wee baby girl last Friday morning at 1023. Weighing 7lb 14oz. She's just so perfect and content. I wanted to thank you so much for helping me prepare for her birth. The hypnotherapy was brilliant. It was all very quick in the end, about six hours from start to finish thank god and thanks to the hypnotherapy I didn't need any other drugs, so it was just what I wanted. Wee ****** is wile content and the midwives said they thought it was down to the hypnotherapy as well. I hope your wee man is doing great and thanks again. I have been telling all my pregnant friends to be sure to give you a shout. Thanks a mill, xx. MH
