Paula Adam's profile

Why I became a practitioner

My own daughter was born over 20yrs ago. To help me through labour I had arranged to receive coaching from a midwife who practised psychoprophylaxis but due to a family bereavement this did not come about.  I remember feeling at a loss about how to cope with labour and birth, and feeling increasingly frightened at the sensations each contraction brought - I just didn't know how to help myself.

I was introduced to Natal Hypnotherapy by a colleague and after attending one of Maggie's workshops I knew that I had to become a Practitioner - I had found a way of working with women that I had been looking for.

My many years working with women have taught me that positivity and confidence are so important when approaching birth, and that every birth is a unique experience for each family.

Many birth preparation programmes tend not to be useful for women who experience problems in pregnancy or who need to birth in a 'medicalised' environment.  In Natal Hypnotherapy I found something that could be used by all women wherever they are planning to give birth. I wish it had been around 20yrs ago!

My core beliefs surrounding pregnancy and birth

Every woman should have the opportunity for a positive birth experience irrespective of how or where labour and birth take place.

With help we are all able to learn to calm the mind and relax the body in order to help it work to it's best ability during labour and birth.

In our modern society many women seem to have lost confidence in their abilities regarding labour and birth.  By actively preparaing for this life event women are more likely to approach it with confidence and give themselves the best chance of a positive birth expereince.

My experience of working with pregnant women and my personal experience of Natal Hypnotherapy

I have been working with women during pregnancy and birth since 1987.

I have a particular interest in helping those women who have difficult pregnancies or a past negative birth experience to prepare for labour and birth.

Although I've attended many, many births over the years, from the bottom of my heart it's still absolutely amazing every time!

I am a pregnancy massage therapist and teach birth partners positive touch and massage for labour.

What I feel women gain from attending my course

After completing both days of the course - Hypnosis - Natural Pain Relief, and Practical Birth Preparation you and your birth partner/s will have an understanding of the physical and emotional journey that is labour and birth.

You will have learned practical skills to help you approach birth with confidence.

Birth partners this course is for you!  You will gain knowledge and practical skills that will be invaluable to you and the labouring mum.

Groups are kept small so that I can spend time with everyone individually - never more than 5 couples, frequently 2-3 couples.

If my dates on the website are not convenient or you prefer me to see you on a one to one basis at home please contact me.  I am willing to travel outside my North Staffordshire base.

There is more information on the website about all aspects of Natal Hypnotherapy but I would be very happy if you would contact me by mobile or email if you have any particular queries about my courses.

I am also a massage therapist so please contact me directly if you are interested in taking advantage of the many benefits of massage whilst you are pregnant.  I would be happy to discuss your particular needs with you. Click on www.paula-adams-therapies.co.uk to find out more.
