Why I became a practitioner

I have been teaching antenatal education for a while now and felt that perhaps I have been teaching women how to have their epidurals and managed births instead of encouraging women to believe they can birth more instinctively and naturally. I did quite a lot of sole searching and Internet searching to find a way/method of supporting women in having their babies more confidently and so I discovered Natal Hypnotherapy which basically had the hymn that I wanted to sing from - that is, women are designed to birth naturally instinctively and confidently and with the right support and beliefs, they can!

My core beliefs surrounding pregnancy and birth

It is quite evident that in the highly developed world, birth preparation is crucial. Giving birth is not only a physical process but an emotional one and women need the confidence to embrace their resources they instinctively have with their labour and birth

The more we understand about what happens to our bodies and emotions while giving birth, the less likely we are to let our fears and anxieties take over. Although having a baby now is safer than ever, more and more women fear the medical intervention. By not always giving in to the abundance of available care and allowing your body and your baby to decide when is the right time to arrive you can remain in control and in an environment that will allow you to accept the flow of labour and surrender to those feelings.

My experience of working with pregnant women and my personal experience of Natal Hypnotherapy

I have been an Antenatal Teacher for the NCT for nearly seven years and during this time I have supported many couples through this very exciting time. As well as teaching, I have also had the pleasure and privilege of supporting couples during their births at hospital and in the home.

I have been amazed when I have used the Natal Hypnotherapy tools with couples during their births, when things seem to get difficult, the power of deep relaxation always seemed to calm and control the power of the contractions making them more manageable. It has been known for some women to doze during their contractions and 'wake up' fully dilated!!

I am also a Pregnancy for Yoga Teacher. During these classes I encourage the women to use their bodies confidently during their births.

What I feel women gain from attending my course

Couples feel comfortable to discuss/question and debate issues about their births and feel reassured that I can share my skills and knowledge of childbirth and Natal Hypnotherapy with them, enabling them to feel confident and empowered to use the tools during their own births.
