Midwives perspective on Mothers using Natal Hypnotherapy CDs
‘The first time I observed a woman using Natal Hypnotherapy was at a home birth. When I arrived she was in a birthing pool and was so comfortable she almost appeared to be sleeping between the contractions. My impression was that this primip couldn’t possibly be in active labour. Imagine my suprise to discover she was fully dilated!!! My experience is that women using Natal Hypnotherapy actually enjoy their labour and delivery’ Lynn Maidman, Midwife, Middlesbrough‘
'As a midwife and a mum I would highly recommend Natal Hypnotherapy. The workshop was excellent. I used the Effective Birth Preparation CD regularly throughout my pregnancy to relax and prepare for the labour’ Linzy Hedgecock, Midwife, Newcastle Upon Tyne
"Her demeanour was calm and accepting and as the labour progressed, she retreated into her chosen birthing room with her husband. As a midwife it was quite a difficult labout to asses as she appeared to be "sleeping" during most of her contractions, breathing slightly more deeply as they peaked. Herson was delivered by her husband and myself after a rapid second stage to a euphoric mother. It was a privilege to be involved. She used no Pharmacological methods of pain relief and conducted her labour and delivery entirely under Self Hypnosis. She appeared to experience no pain and very little discomfort throughout" - Ria, NHS Midwife
"When she first mentioned that she was going to use self Hypnosis for her first labour, I was sceptical as to whether she would be able to achieve this, having unrealistic expectations. During her labour I was happy to be proved wrong. Her ability to remain relaxed, totally in control, yet fully communicative throughout the experience was impressive. Despite having a long labour, she manage to retain her strength, control and stamina to successfully deliver Joseph." Judy, NHS midwife
"One of the main keys to a successful labour is being calm , relaxed and feeling in control. From my observations, hypnotherapy certainly helps to promote relaxation. Some of our clients that have used hypnosis antenatally, have reported that they have been able to "self hypnotise" during labour making it an easier and enjoyable experience". Laura, Independent midwife
‘I first heard about the benefits of self-hypnosis birth preparation from a GP I worked alongside. She told me she had used it herself to have two home births. Having the programme, created in the UK, she couldn’t recommend it highly enough! Comparing the US HypnoBirthing and UK Natal hypnotherapy programmes I felt the US version was perhaps too unrealistic as it claimed women would feel no pain. As a Midwife, working within the NHS, I felt that this was too broad a statement. The UK programme states women will feel calm and in control no matter where there birth takes them which motivated me to go on to train to be a Practitioner. I have now delivered workshops to hundreds of couples. I now know the claim to be completely true!’ Sue Turner-Symonds, Midwife, Middlesbrough.
